That's just the ticket!
The Forces Pension Society prize raffle 2007 has just been drawn and with it brought good news for one young Gunner serving with 16 Battery, 26 Regiment. Gunner TT Lavelawa was amazed to learn he had won £1,000 – third place in the raffle which included a Ford Zetec and P & O cruise amongst the prizes.
This is the second year the Forces Pension Society has run the raffle in association with Forces Financial who have been delighted to lend support – in fact TT’s ticket was bought from Forces Financial Sales Manager Jules Harrison on one of his regular visits to the Abbey counter in the branch during the last weeks of the draw – proving the old adage that ‘it’s never too late’ to get in it to win it!
On receiving the cheque in the Gutersloh Forces Financial branch from Regional Manager Sara Gardner acting on behalf of the Society, TT said:
“I really wasn’t expecting anything - I often enter competitions and raffles but have never been lucky in the past! “ The cheque was quickly deposited in his Abbey account to be sent home to Lavelawa’s family in Fiji.
This year the raffle more than doubled the fundraising result of 2006, which is excellent news for the Forces Pension Society, helping it in it’s campaign for equitable pensions on behalf of Armed Forces personnel, both past and present, as well as the work undertaken on behalf of individuals.
The Chairman of the Forces Pension Society – Vice Admiral Sir Michael Moore, said - “I am delighted with the success of the raffle and most grateful to Forces Financial for facilitating it and achieving such a splendid result for the winners and for the Society. Our important work on behalf of Armed Forces pensioners will benefit from this”
Al Voice, Managing Director of Forces Financial added the following:
"We are delighted one of our serving soldiers in BFG has won this valuable cash prize - we are all aware of the great support servicemen and women give to Forces charities, so it's wonderful that one of them should win this terrific prize. Our involvement with the Forces Pension Society is typical of the style of sponsorship we undertake - working together with charities and associations, involving our people and hopefully making a more lasting contribution, whilst at the same time developing our teams."
